Clinical Trials for Uncontrolled High Blood Pressure
(Hypertension)

We are currently recruiting volunteers for hypertension clinical trials

If eligible to take part in a trial, your participation may include reimbursement for study-related time and travel, as well as flexibility of visits to fit around your schedule.

Synexus clinical trials are reviewed by an independent ethics committee and authorised by the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA).

Take the next step to see if you may be eligible for local clinical trials for people with uncontrolled hypertension (high blood pressure/HBP).

Why These Hypertension Clinical Trials Are So Important

According to the medical journal BMJ, over 25% of UK adults has hypertension, and for about 30% their blood pressure is poorly controlled. Some may even take several medications to treat it, but still haven’t reached their blood pressure goal. Yet for every 10mmHg reduction in systolic* blood pressure, the risk of major a cardiac event (like a stroke or heart attack) drops by 20%.

*The amount of pressure on arteries when the heart beats.

Since hypertension can damage blood vessels it is important to treat high blood pressure effectively—especially in those with cardiovascular disease (CVD)**. In fact, high blood pressure leads to hardening and narrowing the arteries, also known as atherosclerosis,*** which in turn increases the risk of CVD and chronic kidney disease (CKD), among others.

**A group of disorders that affect the heart and blood vessels
***Blocked arteries from plaque

Since hypertension can be difficult to get under control, clinical trials are now assessing investigational “add-on” blood pressure medications. These types of therapies require very infrequent dosing. The hope is that they will help more people reach their blood pressure goals—without adding to their daily dosing burden.

Know that even if you are eligible and enrol, you can still withdraw from the study at any time, for any reason. See if you may be eligible

What are clinical trials?

Clinical trials are medical research studies that test investigational medicines and treatments.

People may not give much thought to clinical research, but everything from aspirin to chemotherapy has been carefully tested before being prescribed by your doctor.

Clinical trials need human volunteers, who participate under the supervision of a doctor and/or health professionals. As the trial goes on, the doctors gather more and more information about the medicine or treatment under investigation. It is only through clinical trials that we learn if medicines and treatments are both effective and safe.
